Pay to have a new Plasma tv settings changed?

I’m in the market for a 50″ plasma TV, probably in the $1500 range, meaning the Panasonic TH-50PX75U 50. In any case, I’ve now been told by two sales people, one at Best Buy and another at a high-end home theater retailer, that I should pay someone to come in to my home and change the video settings on the set BACK to the factory settings. According to these guys, the t.v.s come out of the box with settings that are bright and take up more power and t.v. life in general than necessary and it takes a trained professional $8000 worth of equipment and 1-2 hours to do this. It sounds to me like a way for retailers to make money. Anyone have any information for me?

DONT do that, I worked for best buy for 5years and half of their installers suck. if you want a good quick calibration for your tv get a dvd that is thx certified. any star wars, lord of the rings or pixar flick for example. put anyone of these dvds in and on the main menu there is a small thx logo somewhere on the screen, highlight it and follow the directions on the video section and you will get a very good and FREE calibration. while it is not as in depth as the one they try to sell, it, in my personal opinion is good enough and saves you a few hundred$. as far as wearing your tv life down, a plasma tv will last 20 plus years easily. no matter the settings
