UK holidays – keeping your cool driving on the motorways
This year’s summer may have already drawn to a close but people are still setting off on their holidays, albeit many opting for shorter weekend breaks around the UK. Holidays in the UK have become popular during the credit crisis, so much so that they’ve earned their own nickname in the media – “Staycations”. Many families will be packing up their holiday things and heading off to one of the many beach resorts, caravan parks or National Parks across the country.
Where holiday travel is concerned, it’s important then that driving on the motorway doesn’t become a chore; with the late summer heat and added traffic it can be hard to stay cool under pressure on the roads. Many road users have short fuses at the best of times when on the motorway but sitting in traffic for hours can send even the best drivers into meltdown.
In order to make sure you have a good trip it’s advisable to make sure you’re prepared. To make sure that you’re ready for the road here are a few tips:
Pack food and drinks for the family
Being stuck in the car for prolonged periods of time can leave the family and you, the driver, hungry and thirsty. Packing a cool box or backpack with some sandwiches, fruit and cold drinks can cool everyone down and keep hunger at bay on the trip. A cold drink will also help cool you down when it’s warm.
Play games
Whilst confined to the interior of your car, children can get pretty irritable and cranky. To keep them amused you could try playing some observational games. The age old favourite “I spy” is an easy game to play that everyone in the car can take part in. If you don’t want to be disturbed in car DVD players can keep the kids quiet whilst you concentrate on driving.
Take regular breaks
If driving long distance, trying to do it in one long shift can be tiring but more importantly dangerous. Many people become tired through driving and are prone to falling asleep, especially if driving at night. Make sure you stop regularly to stretch your legs, use the bathroom or get something to eat and drink. If driving with another adult see if it’s possible to drive in shifts so you can rest.
Plan your route wisely
Many people will use sat navs to guide them these days; but although the sat nav might take you on the most direct rout in the majority of cases, it might not take you on the quickest. Doing a bit of research using a map you’ll be able to find alternate routes that may work out longer, but will get you to your destination quicker by avoiding traffic hot spots. Timing is vital when travelling too, by setting off a earlier or later than the crowds of other weekend holiday makers you can often beat the rush and hit relatively little traffic as a reward.
If you are one of many people who has bad credit car finance then search for the right supplier online as there are some great deals to suit your budget and requirements.
Deals including car loans can be widely found online and if you need some help funding the purchase on your car then look no further.
