Why need so many separate boxing weight classes?
After all, is not the size of the dog in the fight, is the size the fight in the dog! Winning the fight is about the ability of how much you struggle, not just how great you are! Any person of any size can beat anyone in a fight with the proper training and skill. Why should keep them both apart like this? Should not be separated the fight against real skill and not just big?
Another user (perhaps is that using a different account) and asked this, so I will give my Answer: The analogy I made about dogs is partly true, but a big man, almost always beat a small man, big size matters in boxing: Roberto Duran, no matter how trained and skilled would never have been able to beat Muhammad Ali. I remember there was a fight with Arturo Gatti (RIP) where he obtained a quantity extreme weight after weighing and brutally beaten former champion Joey Gamache, who suffer brain damage from the fight. Gamarra even filed a lawsuit against Gatti Gatti did indicate that the weight of the contract and had an unfair advantage over him in the ring because of its size. I probably should not be as many weight divisions, as there are today (17), but I really do not care all that much to say the truth, giving fighters a better chance of success in different classes weight, if a fighter is struggling to make weight, you can raise a few pounds and have a good chance to succeed in that kind of weight due to the fact that differences in weight divisions are relatively small, but now, when there were only eight divisions, had a much greater difference in weight. There may have been a lot of matches better if it had fewer divisions, but there are a lot of games that arise in the sport of boxing and that is more fair to the wrestlers weigh less than 200 pounds (as there is no weight limit for heavyweight). Some of the companies best game happened, simply because there was more weight divisions and allowed the combatants to perform at maximum capacity. Originally there were 8, but then added one in each weight category and created a division straw weight, which is the way it currently is 17. I think the real reason is so that there are so many sanctioning bodies can collect as many charges as they can punish to their titles. We could probably do without a lot of "junior" and "super" weight divisions, especially in the lighter weight classes, because the difference in weight of some of them is only 3 pounds (ie flyweight, flyweight and super). However, as I said before, it gives fighters a better chance to succeed and is your sport and I think it should have as many opportunities to succeed in his profession as possible.
