Manny Pacquiao's story begins in General Santos City, Philippines. He was born on December 17, 1978. We can not begin to tell the story of Manny Pacquiao, without examining the hard life of Manny Pacquiao. He was born in devastating poverty and was forced to work at a very young age when his father abandoned the family for another woman.
Manny Pacquiao worked in the hardcore streets of the sale of General Santos City breads and other bakery products. Those same streets that helped in the development of the individual hard and unforgiving we see in the ring today. Also known as Pacman do to the way in which devours his opponents in the ring, Manny began fighting for a few dollars in the streets. These fights were brutal but soon Manny Pacquiao won a reputation as a tough fighter, and sand showing incredible determination when fighting against opponents who were much bigger than him. Even at an early age displayed the speed and Manny left office that has given him one of the boxers most exciting of his time.
Manny Pacquiao's mother, however, was not a fan. She was very religious and had hoped that his son would join the priesthood. Manny growing popularity of the city and people began to take note of this skinny guy with a hammer in his left hand. Without permission Manny went to Manila to pursue her career hoping to become a star in order to help his mother and family.

Manny was given the opportunity in June 2001 when he faced IBF bantamweight champion Lehlohonolo Ledwaba. Manny fought and impressive fight, knocking out tough champion in the sixth round. Winning the IBF belt in Las Vegas opened in these impressive fashion many doors for Manny Pacquiao in the United States, which is undoubtedly the largest market in the world of boxing. Manny Pacquiao defended his title until 2003 when he gave up and moved to a higher weight class that included the likes of Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez, three Mexican legends. It avenged a loss to Morales and beaten in the third party that sent the great Morales into retirement. Barrera fought and destroyed, and later with Juan Manuel Marquez in a really exciting battle. Marquez was dropped three times in the first round and fought valiantly to get a draw. In the rematch Pacquiao received what many consider a controversial victory.
Manny Pacquiao's story continues as he faces his toughest opponent of December 6, 2008 in Las Vegas. He will face Oscar De La Hoya will be fighting in 147 pounds. The question is whether Manny Pacquiao made a wise decision to move up in weight to fight a true welterweight and living legend Oscar De La Hoya. This may be a Mexican can not be beat!
