The concept was devised by Viveca Piloxing Jensen. Viveca was once a dancer and originally lived in Sweden. Viveca has since moved to Los Angeles where he has made a real name itself with a list celebrities attending their Pilates studio in Burbank, California.

So what is Piloxing and why is it proving so successful? Well, actually it is not as gimmicky as it might first sound. Joseph Pilates was actually a boxer and Olympic boxer Andre Ward added Pilates into your workout routine before winning gold in Athens 2004. Piloxing aims to introduce an element of Pilates cardiovascular which is traditionally not an exercise that mostly makes the heart pumping. It is therefore not a weight loss routine in its classic form. Pilates is designed to increase inner strength and flexibility, improve core stability and improve posture. Adding the boxing elevates the heart rate, increases circulation of oxygen (which is very good for the skin) and burns calories – ideal for lose weight.

At first, the two exercises seem to contradict each other. Unlike Aqualate, boxing seems to be the opposite of Pilates. His short, sharp shock of uppercuts and blows do not resemble the flowing movements of, for example, the Star or Dart. However, this apparent contradiction provides several advantages. The intensity change can help people who do not have the highest levels of fitness and, although Piloxing is designed for women, the element of boxing may encourage more men to take This form of Pilates. Surprisingly, Pilates and boxing share some common ground. Breathing patterns are similar, body awareness is key, and both work the "core region.

I would recommend using these gloves, even during regular sessions of Pilates.

The only way to find out whether the combination of these two extremes for you will try it yourself. Piloxing is making its way to the UK, but the box of Gym in London is the only place in the UK currently offers Piloxing. Only time will tell if Piloxing will be a brief fad or long-term exercise offered in gyms around the world. However, this new merger is surprising that makes sense and seems to work.
