Make a costume (Empire State Building)?

Im in this program at my school, we raise funds for Children's Miracle Network, and in March will a parade during the parade onto the stage with a baby, but both are in the locker room, I like to dress my baby as a mono / Gorrila and will be the building Empire State, I will take the stage holding. This is an allusion to King Kong which I hope will be fun, anyway how I can build an empire in good state building costume, preferably without using cardboard boxes, i was thinking some kind of cloth and wire mesh.
